Ships of virtually all types are accepted for registration and the Manx fleet includes bulk carriers, tankers, gas and chemical carriers, offshore support vessels, FPSOs, container ships, cargo ships, and Ro-Ro ferries.
However, some ships are not accepted for the registry. These are as follows:
- Ships that are not classed with one of our accepted Class Societies.
- Ships of under 500 GT unless they are operating around the Isle of Man
- Ships over 35 years old
- Single hull oil tankers
- High-Speed Craft operating without AIS.
- Floating Dry Docks
- Harbour and estuarial craft operating outside Manx waters
- Pilgrim Ships
- Ships engaged in the carriage of irradiated nuclear fuel
The Samoan Registry is open to any shipowner in the world and accepts any type of vessel so long as it meets the Registry standards. The pre-registration formalities are user-friendly, and designed to meet international standards in relation to safety and documentation and to protect the interest of shipowners registering their vessels in Samoa.
In order to enter the Samoan Registry, a vessel must be less than 20 years of age and must meet the Registry’s safety standards. Vessel registration requirements, applications and forms are available online.
Samoa permits registration of the following vessels:
Vessels under construction, newbuildings and those transferring from other flags;
Vessels involved in international, coastal or domestic trading;
Offshore vessels; and
Vessels in lay-up.
In addition to registration where Samoa is the sole flag, dual flag registration on bareboat charter-in or bareboat charter-out basis is also permitted by the Samoan law.
The Samoan Registry’s vessel registration staff in Lodon and the Registry’s regional offices are available to assist with the registration process and to explain all procedures.
